Dear JAAG members and friends,

It is with great sadness that we share the news that our Honorary President, Martin Lloyd, died peacefully at Sobell House Hospice in Oxfordshire on Wednesday 15 July. His wife, Annie, and members of their family were with him.

‍Martin was a much-loved friend and a driving force in the founding of JAAG. Even after failing health led him to step down from the JAAG Board, he continued to take a close and active interest in all our work. His wisdom and advice were often sought and always given freely and generously.

‍ Martin brought to JAAG a lifetime of experience in the development and implementation of industrial safety standards, and his work was known and respected internationally. He cared deeply about the need for similar standards to ensure that computer-based systems are designed with transparency, accountability and clearly defined ethical values.

‍ Alongside his professional achievements, Martin was also a talented artist and storyteller. Shortly before his death, he created and published Dogland Rescue, a funny and imaginative graphic novel for readers aged nine to ninety-nine. It can be found at https://doglandbooks.co.uk/.

‍ Had his health allowed, Martin had also hoped to develop a storyline for JAAG’s mascot, Jaguar — one more example of the creativity, warmth and enthusiasm he brought to everything he did.

‍ Martin gave so much to JAAG, both through his knowledge and through his friendship. We will remember him with great affection and gratitude, and his presence will be deeply missed.

‍Our thoughts, love and sympathy are with Annie, their family, and all who knew and loved him.

‍Martin’s funeral will take place at Dorchester Abbey, Oxfordshire, OX10 7HH, on Wednesday 12 August at 1.30 pm. If you would like more detail please send an email message to admin@jaag.org.uk.

‍ In friendship,

‍The JAAG Board‍ ‍
