Why I work for JAAG?

I am concerned about the trend of systematic collection, monetisation and manipulation of individual's data by both private and public actors. Problems posed by this trend, and by AI and algorithms more widely, call for multidisciplinary solutions.  My interest in digital systems and data privacy began with Edward Snowden's account of how individuals' private data had been collected and stored by the United States Government, without prior knowledge or consent, and subsequent accounts of whistle-blowers such as Christopher Wylie and Brittany Kaiser.
