Joanna Bates A.L.C.M.

Jo is a composer, musician and educator with a fierce love of nature and a fervent interest in the workings of ethical social development. She is not a scientist or systems analyst, but the creative process is the starting point for any solution to any problem - and creativity is her playground. Having written music for TV and worked with orchestras and multimedia producers around the world, Jo is invigorated by the new spirit embodied in JAAG - something different, to make a difference!

Why I work for JAAG?

My interest in social justice goes back to my teenage years but in recent times, it is becoming more focused on the undercurrents of injustice which are out of sight but which increasingly dictate social mores and direct human choices, behaviours and wellbeing. Campaigning for public accountability by big tech and the possibility of guiding AI towards an ethical, human-centred trajectory is a fascinating and rewarding experience which I heartily recommend.
